Our founder

Inspired by strength and resilience

Kifaru Roasters was founded by Kiweewa Farouk, inspired by the strength, resilience and unwavering dedication of his mother, Nakayima Harriet.

From her tireless work and nurturing spirit came the values that guide us today: hard work, authenticity, dignity and pride in our roots.

Just as the rhino, kifaru in Swahili, stands for power, protection and endurance, Nakayima’s legacy has become the backbone of our journey. Born in Uganda, Kifaru Roasters embodies the rich soil, bold spirit and warm heart of our country.

Every bean we roast tells a story of family, resilience and the relentless pursuit of excellence by the people who grow it.

Why we started

Great coffee, too little reward

Ugandan farmers grow some of the world’s finest coffee, yet too many remain underpaid, under-resourced and disconnected from global markets.

We exist to close that gap by empowering farmers at the source and delivering high-quality coffee to the world with integrity.

Underpaid

Most smallholders sell cherry or dried kiboko at the farm gate, with little price information and no reward for better quality.

Under-resourced

Ageing trees, limited access to clean planting material and few extension services keep yields low and vulnerable to pests, disease and climate shocks.

Disconnected from markets

Without traceability and quality data, a farmer’s best lots are mixed with everyone else’s and sold as commodity coffee.
